In a address at the AI Summit in Washington, U.S. President Donald Trump urged top tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Meta to stop outsourcing jobs to countries like India and instead prioritize hiring American workers. Framing his appeal as part of an “America First” strategy, Trump criticized what he called “radical globalism” and claimed that the outsourcing trend has led to millions of Americans feeling “distrustful and betrayed.” He warned that the era of hiring abroad to cut costs must end if the U.S. wants to maintain its technological edge.
Trump’s remarks came alongside the signing of three new executive orders aimed at reshaping AI policy in the U.S. The measures include fast-tracking American-built AI infrastructure, banning what he called “woke” or biased AI in government, and rolling back regulations from the Biden era. His call to halt foreign hiring has triggered sharp responses online, with some hailing it as a necessary move to protect U.S. jobs, while others fear it could strain ties with India and disrupt global tech operations.
