Islamabad, August 11, 2023 - The Chairperson of Voice for Justice, Joseph Jansen, along with the entire team, vehemently condemns the deplorable act of violence perpetrated by the Islamabad Police against the demonstrators of MAP (Minorities Alliance Pakistan) during the observance of National Minority Day. The unwarranted and brutal lathi charge on peaceful protestors stands as a grave violation of democratic rights and an affront to the principles of justice and human rights.
On this significant occasion, dedicated to shedding light on the plight of religious minorities in Pakistan, it is disheartening to witness the very custodians of law resorting to aggression against those championing the cause of equality and justice. We call upon the authorities to immediately release the detained peaceful protestors and ensure their safety and well-being.
The incident underscores a concerning trend where law enforcement agencies, entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding citizens, appear to target those raising their voices against the prevailing injustices within the state. It is deeply troubling that while individuals responsible for heinous acts like abduction, rape, and violence against minors continue to evade accountability, peaceful demonstrators demanding an end to such atrocities find themselves subject to arrest and mistreatment.
This egregious incident is a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive reforms within our law enforcement system to uphold the principles of freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and protection of human rights. We call upon the concerned authorities to conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the events of the day, hold those responsible for the excessive use of force accountable, and take decisive measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
