1 Aug-4 Aug 2023: Four day training workshop was held at Training and Retreat centre, St. John’s church Donga Gal under supervision of Chairperson, Christian Journalists Association of Pakistan Mr. Kashif Nawab and presided by Mr. Sameer Ajmal. Whole programme was designed to enhance the working capacity of currently functioning Christian journalists from all over Pakistan. Students of mass communication were specially invited as future journalists.
Review:
Day first, Guest speaker Mr. Mohammad Saqib (Assistant Professor journalism at Forman Christian College Lahore) talked about Environmental Journalism with perspective of marginalised communities. Prof. Mohammad Saqib is a member of Global Media Climate Network. He explained briefly the need for awareness about world wide Climate change. “Journalists must have proper knowledge to create awareness through their writing”, he said.
Day second, known journalist of Pakistan Mr. Azaz Syed working at Jung and Geo Media News, The News International, BBC Urdu, CNN & DW Urdu, spent time with Christian Journalists sharing his personal knowledge about Investigative journalism, Reporting and Fact Checking. He emphasised on accuracy of news and the value of evidence regarding news.
Senior Cameramen, Yaqoob Aziz, Nasir Jamil shared his experiences with other Journalists giving cameras using techniques.
Rights to Information, crucial topic for journalist was briefed by ChairPerson of CJAP Mr. Kashif Nawab. Transparency and accountability is main purpose of information, he said.
Another resource person Miss. Sheeba Gill, Journalist at 92 news facilitated the group of Christian journalists regarding gender sensitivity. She explained how a journalist can maintain gender equality while observing the sensitivity of gender related biological and gender identity.
Day third, Importance of Digital Security was briefed by resource person Mr. Zeeshan Yaqoob. Digital privacy and security are hot topic for any social media user but for journalists it's much more necessary to know how they can keep their data safe in order to keep the privacy of his news source including his own work.
Mr. Aftab Alam, Director IRADA talked about Media Ethics. These ethics include both owner of news agency and Journalist keeping in view the safety and threats.
Certificates were distributed by Rev. Bishop Humphrey Sarfraz Peters, Peshawar Diocese. With love and peace we can overcome hate, He said while addressing journalist community.
Participants shared their views. A female journalist Miss. Rubina said, knowledge we received through experts will bring change in my entire work.
