Leo XIV is the new Pope

The Conclave has elected Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome. The new pope was announced to the waiting crowds by Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti. 

Pope Leo XIV, birth name Robert Francis Prevost was born at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, on September 14, 1955.Pope Francis named Prevost the Bishop of Chiclayo on his return to Peru, where he served from 2015 to 2023. He was made a cardinal in 2023. He was appointed Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, a prominent role that raised his profile as a potential papal candidate,[ and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America also in 2023.

Following the death of Francis in April 2025, the 2025 papal conclave elected Leo XIV as Francis' successor on May 8, on the fourth ballot.
